DS (40 mg+240 mg) / Forte (80 mg + 480 mg)
Fantar DS / Forte is a recommended Artemisinin combination of Artemether & Lumefantrine to cure malaria within three days. Signs of improvement appears within 8 hours of first dose.
Fantar is effective against both species of malaria i.e., P.falciparum and P.vivax.
Mechanism of Action
Fantar kills the plasmodium by inhibiting nucleic acid and protein formation processes and preventing the growth of malarial parasites in the blood.
- Artemether – It kills the malaria-causing parasite known as Plasmodium and its species.
- Lumefantrine – It is also an anti-malarial drug effective against Plasmodium in its erythrocytic stage.
Dosage & Instructions
Fantar® 3-day regimen is:
- Patients between 15-35kg 1st day: 1 DS tablet in the morning then second DS tablet after 8 hours
- 2nd & 3rd day: 1 tablet in the morning then second tablet in the evening
- Above 35kg 1st day: 2 DS tablets in the morning then 2 DS tablets after 8 hours
- 2nd & 3rd day: 2 DS tablets in the morning then 2 DS tablets in the evening
