Allure is an antiandrogen/estrogen combination that works like combined oral contraceptives (COC). It’s a hormone combination, formulated to treat acne in women caused by androgen excess and hormonal imbalance caused by conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
Active Ingredients
Allure tablets contains two active ingredients:
Cyproterone acetate: Cyproterone acetate belongs to a group of medications called antiandrogens. In a combination with an estrogen, it treats severe acne and excess hair growth (hirsutism) on face and other body parts in women.
Ethinyl estradiol: Ethinyl estradiol (EE) is an estrogen medication which is mostly used in birth control pills. In combination with other drugs, it is also used to treat gynecological disorders and menopausal symptoms.
Mechanism of Action
- Allure is an antiandrogen – estrogen combination which works for the treatment of androgen-dependent conditions in women. Androgens are a group of hormones responsible for male traits and reproductive activity. The antiadrogenic properties, block the androgen receptors and the estrogen component increases levels of the sex hormone binding globulin (SHGB). Both actions help in reducing the androgen levels in the body.
Indications
It is used for treating:
- Moderate to severe acne related to androgen sensitivity
- Hirsutism
Allure also has contraceptive properties but it is to be noted that this product should not be used just for hormonal contraception.
Dosage & Instructions
- Take 1 tablet daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day interval.
- Tablets should be taken every day at the same time
- Treatment should be started on the first day of menstrual bleeding
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
Contraindications
- First two trimesters of pregnancy
- Known hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
- Active gastric or intestinal ulcer, bleeding or perforation.
