Exituss Syrup is a potent cough suppressant. It is not addictive (opioid), arrests the stubborn cough and provides quick relief without making you feel drowsy. It does not produce side effects such as respiratory depression and constipation which usually are seen while using opioid anti-cough medications such as codeine and its spinoffs.
Active Ingredients
It is composed ofone active ingredient – Levodropropizine – which is a smooth muscle relaxant of the lungs that rapidly blocks excessive tightening of breathing muscles (bronchospasm) and prevents the urge to cough.
Mechanism of Action
It efficiently reaches the respiratory system and potently inhibits the bronchospasms produced by histamine, serotonin, and bradykinins. The bronchial itching, inflammation, and contractions are instantly relieved.
After administering the syrup by mouth, the levodropropizine inside the syrup gets quickly absorbed into the gut where it starts to show immediate effects and the maximal effects are accomplished within 40 minutes of intake.
Indications
Exituss Syrup is suggested for patients who havea dry cough due to:
- Respiratory tract infections (RTIs)
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Asthma
- Chronic rhinitis
- Chronic bronchitis
Contraindications
Exituss Syrup is not to be used in patients with:
- Excessive mucosal discharge
- Severe liver disorders
- Levodropropizine allergy
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
Dosage & Instructions
Its dosage depends on the age of the patient.
- For Children: (2-12yrs): 1mg/kg of the body weight – 3 times a day with 6 hours interval (the total daily dose is 3mg/kg)
- For Adults: 10ml 3 times a day with 6 hours interval
